Father’s Day - A Father’s Love

The parable of the prodigal son, as told by Jesus in Luke 15:11-32, examples the heart of our Heavenly Father. God’s love for us is demonstrated through the father’s openness to receive the son who had rejected him. While this is a powerful example of grace, we can miss the father’s interaction with the son who stayed at home and realize this is just as important in understanding God’s heart for his children. Both of these moments demonstrate God’s desire to help us overcome the “orphan spirit” that seeks to lead us down a path of rejection of God’s love or feeling like we are never worthy of it. Understanding this is the first step towards realizing that we are invited into a loving relationship with a Father who values us more than we could imagine.
